About Mayana Mexican Kitchen
The story of Mayana Mexican Kitchen begins with Norberto Rodriguez, a true visionary and pioneer in the St. Louis restaurant industry.
Norberto immigrated to St. Louis from Mexico in 1950 when he was only 17 years old. After spending years working his way up in the St. Louis restaurant industry, he finally fulfilled his life long dream of opening his own restaurant in 1964. It was a modest diner with only 18 seats but the crowds gathered around the block and eventually Norberto began integrating the traditional Mexican food that he grew up on into the menu. The feedback was so overwhelming that he decided to open Hacienda in 1968, one of the first Mexican restaurants in the Midwest.
Hacienda was a resounding success from day one; diners came from the metropolitan area and beyond to experience Hacienda’s unique food, warm hospitality and festive atmosphere. Hacienda quickly grew to become one of the largest independent restaurants in the Midwest and a true St. Louis landmark with over 500 seats, a full-service catering company, thriving retail foods business and recently formed charitable organization.
Mayana Mexican Kitchen was founded as a new, modern way to offer customers the tastes and hospitality that made Hacienda famous by staying true to Norberto’s “fundamentals” of a passion for Mexican food and commitment to providing the best possible guest experience.
